Hey guys so I'm posting a report about my time at Otakon. So unless your willing to deal with me whining a little just skip over this.
So just to put this out there Otakon this year is probably the worst con experience i have had since i have started going to cons. It wasn't that con itself but all the problems i had during it. So after getting ready for week and getting all my cosplays done early Otakon just seemed to be here all to soon.
Thursday
So thursday started out pretty good. Marys mom picked us all up and drove us all the way to the con and then turned around and drove 3+ hours back. I can't thank her enough for that. But heres where things started going bad. In the middle of packing our car i got a call from my mom which resulted in me not totally pay attention to what was being packed. so in my last run into my apartment i ended up not noticing that both my Wild tiger and Barnaby masks got left behind as well as my cell phone. Of course with my luck i didn't notice the masks until about 5 miles from the convention center. We tried seeing about over nighting them in the mail but the post office wanted to charge $200 for the masks and even my phone would have cost $48. So after arriving we were already in our cosplays so we headed to the convention center. I was dressed as Korra. So we got in line to get our badges which took like no time at all which was awesome. After that i headed out to meet my sister and her friends to do our photoshoot. The best part of Thursday was how popular my Korra cosplay was. I wasn't expecting it to be such a hit seeing as there was probably going to be a million Korra at the con. But i got a number of pictures which helped lighten my mood after such a terrible start. unfortunately by the end of the night my Korra shirt was ruined by some pink stains and i couldn't wear it again.I was at least lucky enough to just miss the thunderstorm that night but some of my roommates got caught in it.
Friday
Friday was my Okami Amaterasu cosplay which required me to get up early to apply my white makeup and tattoos. The cosplay itself wasn't to bad but with the horrible heat and the face makeup it was pretty uncomfortable. Friday pretty much consisted of my group doing our own shoots and going to the artist alley. I think one of my favorite parts of this con was getting to meet Zeda in the artist alley. She was just so nice to me and helpful. At one point on friday before changing cosplays we got invited to the Otakon photo suit, and they took such amazing pictures of use and hopfully one of ours will get picked for the booklet or website. but of course i couldn't go a day without something happening. Back at our hotel i notice that my prop sword that was gold/orange had stained the whole left side of my cosplay. and since it was a white outfit it was pretty obvious. I'm hoping I'll be able to bleach that cosplay at least so i won't have to remake it. Later that night i changed to my genderbend Stocking cosplay. But thats pretty much the end of my friday.
Saturday
Saturday was probably the day i was dreading the most of this weekend. After forgetting our masks for the Tiger and Bunny cosplays i really just did not want to wear them. It was no ones fault but my own that i didn't pack them and with how much money i put into both of those cosplays i hated myself for not having a complete cosplay. Having remade them at least twice i think I've but almost $300 into them. But before i could even do my Wild Tiger cosplay i had to quickly put my Okami cosplay back on that morning just to do a shoot with a Susanoo and His dog i had planned to do friday but got rescheduled. So after putting on all my makeup and running the 15 mins to the convention center i did a very short shoot them them. Then i ran back to my hotel, took a shower and put on Wild tiger. At this point the heat was killing me and i ended up alone in the process of changing cosplays. This is where trouble started again. Not having my phone i trying looking for any of my friends which didn't happen so i went to my last resort. I kinda feel bad but the only person i new how to find was Zeda. so i showed up at her table and was all to willing the help me contact my friends. she even let me sit at her table for a while and we just got to sit there and talk about art and draw. and even though everything else seemed to be going wrong i think this was one of the highlights of my weekend. Zeda I love you thank you for being such and awesome person. Finally around 2 i met up with Mary(my barnaby) and we went to our Tiger and Bunny shoot and then did our own private shoot. After that most our our group decided to change out of their cosplays into more comfy outfits. I ended up staying in my hero suit because i lent my John Egbert cosplay to my sister. So again i ended up alone and after wandering around for i while i ran into a Blue Rose cosplayer. She was so great and after my group had canceled our night shoot i ended up having my own shoot with some other Tiger and Bunny cosplayers. We had tried to go by the outdoor fountains but turned out there was a pretty big One Piece shoot going on there. So finally after fixing a few cosplay malfunctions with our Blue Rose we finally settled on going to the outdoor garden at the con. The shoot was great and we had Me as Wild Tiger, Helen as Blue Rose, Tara as Dragon Kid and I believe or Origami Cyclones name was Sara. Our photographer was amazing and she was also dressed as Hero tv crew which was even cooler. The shoot probably ended up lasting i think about 2 hours total but it was so worth it. I'm so glad i met these guys and i hope we can all cosplay together again. After leaving the shoot i headed over to the Homestuck draw meet early. not much happened there for me cause i wasn't cosplaying homestuck( my sister had my John cosplay) but i did see a few of my friends and got a chance to rest. After sitting around for a while and drawing all my friends left so i ended up just going back to my hotel for the night.
Sunday
Sunday was my extra cosplay day so after packing i just wore my male Stocking cosplay. Finally everyone in our group was done packing and moving out of our rooms and we made our way to the con. of course bad luck was just everywhere for my group and Mary was forced to run back to the hotel because of checkout issues. so after waiting with her things for her to get to the con we headed over to Starbucks for her to get coffee. I headed over to the artist alley early to wait for her there and while i was gone she realized she didn't have her wallet with her and she had left it in her bag at the hotel. So when we finally found we other again she didn't have coffee and had already been back and forth to the hotel at least twice which must have been horrible in that weather. The rest of my day was pretty much buying things in the artist alley and dealers room. I got a really cute ice cream tote bag, a blue and silver Legend of Zelda shirt, a purple alpaca toy, and a Lambo and Ryohei statue (still cant find one of them though). also i ended up buying alot of things for friends. and to end my Sunday i went out and did a shoot with two of my friends and then went to the noodle company for lunch before they had to be back at their hotel. I have never eaten there before but it was really good. finally i met up with some of my friends still at the con and was able to say good bye to everyone i would see for a while. It was really nice to see so many of my old cosplay friends.
So there you go guys. This is pretty much how my weekend went. I probably missed some stuff and i don't think i will ever forget my cell phone for a con again but i hope everyone else had a better con then i did. I'm really looking forward to my next cosplay and i think the next think I'll be working on is remaking my Ion Fortuna cosplay from Trinity Blood.
Hello! This is Isis (The Hiccup from Katsucon and Zenkaikon). I just wanted to say that you are fantastic. I can take it down though if you want me too. Wish I could make it up to AB to see you! Have tons of fun!
Hey, I feel MEGA AWKWARD ASKING THIS. but are you a boy or a girl? Just because I am looking into crossplaying for the first time and can't help but notice that you seem to be the god of binding- that is, if your a chick. Do you use a binder? Bandages? Sports bra? Magic? /really at a loss
If it helps at all, you make for a very attractive dude/chick, whichever you fall under xD
uh no its fine, im a girl. I use a chest binder although im pretty flat chested anyway. the site i got mine from looks sketchy but it has the best stuff and is affordable. Binders are so much better then anything else and they are comfortable. here is the one i use and i got it in white: [link] the site has a chart for sizes so you'll have to measure yourself to get the right size.
